Report incorrect hours

Hours Locator is an independent information site and is not affiliated with Ohio BMV Deputy Registrar.

Ohio BMV in-person licensing and registration services are delivered through a network of deputy registrar license agencies rather than one statewide office schedule. Weekend access is required at the county level, but that rule does not mean every deputy registrar follows the same Saturday or Sunday hours.

Ohio Does Not Use One Statewide Deputy Registrar Clock

Deputy registrar license agencies operate under hours prescribed and approved by the Ohio Registrar of Motor Vehicles. Each agency submits its operating schedule for approval, so a single opening and closing time cannot accurately represent every Ohio BMV deputy registrar location.

This also explains why the hours for the BMV’s central customer-service operation should not be treated as the hours for a local license agency. The local deputy registrar schedule controls when customers can complete in-person transactions such as driver license or identification card issuance and many vehicle-registration services.

No lunch closure: Current Ohio BMV deputy registrar contract terms state that an agency may not close for lunch. A proposed closing outside normal approved operations generally requires advance approval from the Registrar.

Weekend Access Is Required at the County Level

Ohio law contains an unusual weekend-access requirement for the deputy registrar network. At least one deputy registrar office in each county must be open to the public for a minimum of four hours each weekend. When only one deputy registrar office is located within the county-seat boundary, that office is the one required to provide the weekend period.

The rule guarantees county-level weekend availability rather than universal Saturday or Sunday service at every agency. One location may satisfy the county requirement while another nearby deputy registrar remains closed for the weekend or uses a different approved schedule.

For that reason, a Saturday schedule found for one Ohio license agency should not be applied to another office, even within the same general region. The statewide rule defines minimum access; the approved agency schedule determines the actual service window.

Deputy Registrar, Exam Station and Title Office Hours Are Different

Ohio’s motor-vehicle services can be located in the same building or nearby facilities, but they do not automatically share a service schedule. The office type matters when deciding which closing time applies to a transaction.

Ohio motor-vehicle office types and the service clock that applies
Office typeSchedule note
Deputy Registrar License AgencyHandles driver license and ID issuance, vehicle registrations and other authorized BMV transactions during its approved agency hours.
Driver Exam StationTesting services use their own operating and testing windows. Driving or skills-test availability should not be inferred from deputy registrar hours.
County Title OfficeVehicle title offices are operated through county clerks of courts and use separate local office schedules.

Knowledge testing is another reason to distinguish the office type. Ohio permits in-person knowledge testing at driver exam stations and at select deputy registrar locations, so the presence of a license agency does not by itself establish that every testing service is available there.

Holiday Closures Are Not a Single Published Deputy Registrar Calendar

Ohio publishes a state holiday calendar, but deputy registrar license agencies operate under their own Registrar-approved business hours. A complete statewide holiday status covering every deputy registrar and every common holiday is not published as one uniform license-agency schedule.

That distinction matters around holidays that create long weekends. A state observance should not automatically be converted into a closure claim for every deputy registrar unless the local agency schedule or an Ohio BMV notice confirms it. The same principle applies to shortened hours before or after a holiday.

The holiday summary is therefore not treated as a fixed statewide schedule here. It is more accurate to keep the deputy registrar’s approved local operating record separate from the general State of Ohio holiday calendar.

Get In Line Online Does Not Create an Appointment

Ohio BMV’s Get In Line Online system can display participating offices, their office hours and current waiting information. Joining the remote queue reserves a place in the line-management system, but the BMV states that it is not an appointment and a customer may still have a wait after arriving.

Customers can also enter the line at a deputy registrar agency without first using a phone. Where supported, check-in can be completed through the agency kiosk or its posted QR-code process. This queueing system is separate from services that require a formally scheduled driving or skills test.
