Wendy’s does not use one dependable nationwide opening and closing schedule across its U.S. restaurants. Restaurant status is especially important in 2026 because hundreds of underperforming locations were targeted for closure while remaining restaurants continue to use locally published dining room, drive-thru, breakfast, pickup, and delivery schedules.

2026 U.S. Restaurant Closures

Wendy’s entered 2026 with 5,969 U.S. restaurants and said it expected approximately 5% to 6% of its U.S. restaurants to close as part of its system optimization work. That range represented roughly 298 to 358 restaurants, including 28 locations that had already closed during the fourth quarter of 2025, with most of the remaining closures expected during the first half of 2026.

The company described the restaurants selected for closure as consistently underperforming locations. These were store-by-store decisions rather than a withdrawal from entire states or a shutdown of the Wendy’s U.S. business.

Wendy’s August 7, 2026 second-quarter results showed that the U.S. restaurant count had fallen to 5,724 locations as of June 28, 2026. That was a net decline of 245 U.S. restaurants from the end of 2025. Wendy’s also reported that lower U.S. restaurant count and weaker same-restaurant sales contributed to lower U.S. systemwide sales, while new leadership was developing a broader turnaround plan.

A previously listed Wendy’s address should not automatically be treated as an operating restaurant. During a large closure program, third-party map and directory listings can retain old business hours after a restaurant has permanently closed. Current Wendy’s location status is more useful than an older hours panel when the two disagree.

Restaurant and Drive-Thru Hours Are Location-Specific

The former 6:30 a.m.–1:00 a.m. national estimate does not represent a dependable Wendy’s-wide schedule. Current Wendy’s restaurant pages show substantial differences between U.S. locations. Some restaurants open early in the morning and operate after midnight, others begin service closer to late morning, and some locations operate 24 hours.

Wendy’s local pages can publish separate restaurant and drive-thru schedules. Those schedules sometimes match, but the service rows should still be treated independently because the hours are assigned to the individual restaurant rather than to the chain as a whole.

Opening Times Can Differ Widely Between Wendy’s Restaurants

Wendy’s location pages illustrate why a single national time should not be used as the default answer. Current U.S. listings include restaurants beginning service around 6:00 or 6:30 a.m., locations opening at 7:00 a.m., restaurants with 10:00 a.m. openings, and locations displaying round-the-clock operation. Closing times also range from midnight to several hours after midnight at some restaurants.

Late-night service deserves particular attention because a restaurant’s calendar day can extend past midnight. A location listed as open until 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. is following that restaurant’s own schedule; the same closing time should not be applied to another Wendy’s in the same city or state.

Breakfast and Ordering Windows Do Not Define Full Restaurant Hours

Breakfast timing is a service window rather than a substitute for the restaurant’s full opening and closing schedule. A Wendy’s restaurant may publish breakfast information alongside its daily hours, while another location may not offer the same morning schedule.

Mobile ordering, pickup, and delivery also depend on the selected restaurant. An open dining room does not by itself establish whether every digital ordering option is currently accepting orders, and a delivery cutoff should not be interpreted as the restaurant’s closing time.

Holiday Hours Are Not a Fixed National Schedule

Wendy’s local restaurant pages state that holiday hours may vary. Because the chain does not publish one verified annual schedule covering every U.S. restaurant for all common holidays, the previous sitewide holiday assumptions have been removed from the hours tool.

A local restaurant may change its opening time, closing time, dining room access, or drive-thru schedule for a holiday. The schedule published for the individual restaurant should therefore control rather than a chain-wide holiday estimate.

Closed Wendy’s Locations Can Leave Outdated Hours Behind

The 2026 closure program makes restaurant identity as important as the hours themselves. Search engines, map services, saved links, and older directory pages can continue to surface an address after operations have ended. An old listing showing “open” hours is not proof that the Wendy’s restaurant still exists.

If a familiar Wendy’s location has disappeared from the active Wendy’s restaurant directory, changed status, or no longer accepts orders, do not use previously stored opening and closing times for that address. Another nearby Wendy’s may remain open but can have a completely different restaurant, drive-thru, breakfast, and late-night schedule.
