National Aquarium visitor hours include an important distinction between the building’s closing time and the final time guests can enter. The Baltimore attraction also changes its opening schedule by month, while Harbor Wetland follows separate seasonal hours.
Last Aquarium Entry Is 60 Minutes Before Closing
The National Aquarium sets last entry 60 minutes before the posted closing time. Closing time therefore should not be treated as the latest possible arrival time for a general-admission visit.
For example, when the Aquarium closes at 5 p.m., the final entry is at 4 p.m. A 9 p.m. closing allows entry through 8 p.m. This distinction is especially useful on Fridays, when the main Aquarium may remain open later than it does on other weekdays.
General admission uses timed entry. The final admission rule concerns entry to the Aquarium rather than the time visitors already inside must begin their visit. Tickets also include access to the Aquarium’s exhibits and daily presentations, although separately ticketed tours and experiences can have their own schedules.
October and November Use Different Opening Times
The Aquarium does not use one unchanging opening schedule throughout the year. Its official visitor information publishes hours by month, making the monthly schedule more useful than assuming that a time seen during one season applies year-round.
In October 2026, the main Aquarium opens at 9 a.m., with closing times depending on the day of the week. The November 2026 schedule moves the normal opening time to 10 a.m. while retaining different closing patterns for weekdays, Fridays and weekends.
There are also individual dates that depart from the normal monthly pattern. The Aquarium is closed on November 26, 2026. It then opens from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on November 27 and 28, followed by 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on November 29. These date-specific changes show why a previous month’s opening time should not be carried forward automatically.
Harbor Wetland Has Separate Seasonal Hours
Harbor Wetland, the free outdoor exhibit between Piers 3 and 4, does not always follow the main Aquarium’s full operating day. Its schedule changes separately and can end earlier than indoor visitor hours.
| Area | Schedule note |
|---|---|
| Main Aquarium | Uses the monthly visitor schedule, with last entry 60 minutes before closing. |
| Harbor Wetland, September 1–October 31, 2026 | Open 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday through Thursday and 9 a.m.–6 p.m. Friday. |
| Harbor Wetland, November 1–December 31, 2026 | Scheduled for 10 a.m.–4 p.m. daily, with listed date-specific closures and shortened days. |
Because Harbor Wetland is outdoors, its operating window can also be affected by darkness, severe weather or other outdoor conditions. This means the indoor Aquarium can remain open after the wetland has closed for the day.
The wetland’s late-2026 calendar includes additional exceptions. It is closed November 26 and December 25, while December 16 and December 24 use a shortened 10 a.m.–3 p.m. schedule.
Early Access Does Not Change the General Public Opening Time
Some National Aquarium programs begin before the standard visitor opening time. The Aquarium’s First Saturdays & Sundays program, for example, provides visitors with disabilities and their guests with entry 30 minutes before normal opening on the first Saturday and first Sunday of the month.
For October 2026 events, this early-access period began at 8:30 a.m. ahead of the 9 a.m. public opening. It is a program-specific entry window rather than a general change to the Aquarium’s posted opening time.
Behind-the-scenes experiences can also be scheduled before the Aquarium opens. Visitors holding a tour or special-event reservation should therefore use the time attached to that reservation rather than interpreting an earlier event time as the day’s general-admission opening.
Special Events Can Have Their Own Entry Cutoff
Normal Aquarium last entry is tied to the main building’s closing time, but separately ticketed events can establish a different admission window. An event may begin after regular daytime admission has started, continue into the evening, or stop admitting event guests well before the building closes.
This distinction matters when a ticket is for a tour, early-access session or evening program rather than ordinary timed general admission. The event time and any event-specific last-entry rule control that reservation, while the regular Aquarium schedule applies to standard visits.
