Hours Locator is an independent information site and is not affiliated with Sonic Drive-In.

SONIC publishes minimum operating hours of 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., while individual restaurants can remain open much later. Drive-thru availability, online ordering, delivery and late-night closing times are tied to the specific restaurant rather than one nationwide schedule.

SONIC’s Minimum Hours Are Not a Universal Closing Time

SONIC’s customer FAQ states that its minimum hours of operation are 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. It also explains that most SONIC locations are owned by independent franchisees, which are able to set the hours for their restaurants.

That distinction matters for evening visits. The 10 p.m. figure is a chain-level operating baseline, not a rule that every restaurant closes at 10 p.m. Official SONIC location listings show restaurants that continue serving well beyond that point, including locations open past midnight and others operating into the early morning.

Late-Night SONIC Hours Can Extend Past Midnight

Late-night service is a real part of the SONIC network, but it is not offered on one fixed national timetable. Current official location listings include restaurants with closing times around midnight, after 1 a.m. and, in some markets, several hours later.

This creates large differences even between restaurants in the same state or metropolitan area. A SONIC that serves customers deep into the night should not be used as the schedule for another nearby location.

The local closing time also matters for digital ordering. SONIC’s location pages indicate whether online ordering is available, and some listings can show ordering as unavailable even when the restaurant itself remains part of the network.

Drive-In and Drive-Thru Do Not Mean the Same Thing

SONIC’s drive-in format should not automatically be interpreted as proof that every restaurant has a conventional drive-thru lane. The company’s official location system lists Drive-thru as a specific location feature, alongside services such as Delivery, Online Ordering and Patio.

Some official restaurant listings display a drive-thru while others do not. This makes the service label important when the purpose of the visit is to stay in a moving drive-thru line rather than use the drive-in stalls or another ordering option.

How SONIC service types affect an hours lookup
Service or location typeSchedule note
Restaurant / drive-inThe individual restaurant’s posted operating schedule controls when the location is open.
Drive-thruShown as a location-specific feature on participating restaurant pages rather than a universal SONIC service.
Online orderingAvailability is displayed by location and can differ from one restaurant to another.
DeliveryListed as a location-specific service; it should not be assumed to be available at every SONIC.
Late-night serviceSome official listings continue past midnight, while other restaurants finish service much earlier.

SONIC Does Not Publish One Nationwide Holiday Schedule

A nationwide holiday table would imply more uniformity than SONIC’s current public customer information supports. The company’s hours FAQ provides its minimum daily operating period and explains the role of independent franchisees, but it does not provide a current holiday-by-holiday schedule covering every restaurant.

For that reason, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day and other holiday dates should not automatically be labeled open, closed or reduced across the entire SONIC system. A restaurant can use special local hours without establishing the same schedule for the rest of the chain.

Which SONIC Service Clock Matters for a Late Order?

For a late-night visit, the restaurant’s closing time is only one part of the answer. The intended ordering channel also matters. A location page may identify drive-thru, delivery and online ordering separately, so the presence of one service does not establish that every SONIC offers the same combination.

This is especially relevant after 10 p.m., when SONIC restaurants show some of their widest schedule differences. A restaurant operating into the early morning represents that specific location’s schedule, not a chainwide late-night closing standard.
